Good Bye Rain...Hello Cold??? Wishful Thinking!

Beautiful views along the drive.  This was the Southern end of Nenana Canyon.  

We left Wet Willow after enduring 3 straight days of down pouring rain.  We arrived Friday afternoon in Cantwell and checked out the Denali Highway.  Seemed that almost the entire population of Willow Mushers was there on the highway!   Got mixed reports on trail conditions.  We decided to give the trail another day to hopefully set up due to hopefully cooler temperatures setting in.  

So, today we took off for Fairbanks.  First stop was to Apocalypse Design to try on and measure for a Parka.   They have wonderful parkas, anoraks, hats, bibs, etc.   Then we went to Cold Spot Feeds.  What a store for mushers!   They have everything under one roof.  We picked up a couple of extra bags of dog food, some arctic bungie cord, and two gang line sections.  

We had a bit of a hairy drive into Fairbanks.  The roads were slick and there are lots of hills.   Around one curve, we encountered a van off the road.  Scary.  We are on our way back to Cantwell as I type.  The hills coming back were about as scary, and no fun driving them in the dark.

Dogs have been troopers.  They seem to like it on the road.  I am sure that they will be raring to go in the morning.   We are staying at the Cantwell Lodge and will play it by ear as to how long we stay.  We stocked up on groceries, so we are set.   Our room has a small fridge and a microwave.
