Jan Steves, racing in
the Iditarod, is sending in reports via phone, email, and any other way
she can communicate. Here's the latest
transcription.
The ceremonial start was the most awesome experience
ever. It was just incredible. Words are hard to find. I had a fabulous time with my
Iditarider. The dogs did great
maneuvering through crowds that were just one foot from them. It was so wonderful to have friends from home
too. I’d like to thank Debi, Kathy,
Cindy, Patty, Trish, Jane, Jenny, Sandy out on the Yentna River, Linda, Larry, Buddy,
Cindy, and the many other supporters who had a sign for Bob and I. So cool.
It brought a huge smile to my face.
The restart went well and we finally got on the trail.
We have cleared Yentna, Skwentna, Finger Lake, and Rainy Pass. We conquered the (Happy River) steps and made it through
the (Dalzell) gorge. Those are two of the ‘biggies.’ It is Tuesday at about 6pm. We’re just going
to camp and sleep and let the dogs take a nice long rest. Then we’re going to head out tomorrow and do
the Buffalo Tunnels.
Things are going fantastic. The (Farewell) burn is yet to come.
I believe it when you say, "things are going fantastic", after all, you are living your dream!
ReplyDeleteA MUSHERS BLESSING
May you experience God's presence above you;
keeping your thoughts, feelings and opinions
clear, honest and grounded in truth.
May you experience God's presence beneath you;
grounding your feet like a magnet to the earth and
grounding your back upon a bed for rest of the body, soul and spirit.
May that rest be multiplied many times over.
May you experience God's presence in front of you;
as you sense Him welcoming you to each checkpoint
and along every inch of the trail.
May you experience God's presence behind you;
as He guides you with gee's and haw's.
May you trust what you've heard and
have confidence to act on it.
May you trust God as your Musher and
may you live in the moment as a sled dog,
not looking over your shoulder to the past
or anticipating an unknown future ...
