SHARING MY DREAM !

Well, I had a wonderful diversion from painting.  I had the opportunity to share My Dream, My Passion...my journey with dogs.  We had a good turnout for each presentation (last week at Europe through the Back Door and today at the Edmonds Sr. Center) and wonderful audiences for both.

This morning we packed up all our gear and sled and headed for the Senior Center in downtown Edmonds. Each presentation takes a bit of planning when I get to the room.   As usual, I arrived an hour early and the set up begins.  Tables were folded up and stacked.  Then I had to decide on which side of the screen I would present from.  I do have a preference.  I was able to set up everything to my liking and then the seats began to fill up.

My dad was in the front row with Jackie, Bob was sitting in the back corner.  I had a few other familiar faces there.  It was great to see Karen Fry, Jamen Shively, and Julie Reimer, along with all of the new faces.

I had the chance to meet a remarkable woman named Helga Byhre, who in 1955  (a year before I was born), answered her "Call of the Wild" and she headed for Alaska.  She raced a 7 dog team in the 1962 Women's World Championships of the Alaska Sled Dog Racing Association.  She is in her 80's now and is a real inspiration!

The presentation was about an hour and a half and there were lots of questions afterwards.  As always, I love sharing my journey and today was no different.

Thinking on a kennel name...after the presentation, Julie came up to me and announced "One Ear Up!".   We are liking that!   For those of you who have been to my presentations and school visits, you all know the significance to "One Ear Up".   The "One Ear Up Dog" is "Tok".    Tok is a very special lead dog to me.   He led in all of my Alaska races, with the exception of Iditarod 2013.   He is now retired from mid to long distance racing.
"TOK"  the "Grand Dog"

Well, back to painting....

  1. We are loving the "One Ear Up" kennel name too! It was easy to tell during your presentation just how much Tok has meant to you in your sledding career. What are great way to honor him with a kennel name! Julie

  2. Thanks so much for your feed back Julie, and your suggestion was awesome. It has been right before my eyes and it took you to point it out! I think that it is an AWESOME way to honor Tok. I will have to post some of my favorite pics of him. And thanks to you and Diane I now have a kennel name that means something to me.
